Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
