Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
