Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
