Online poker has become globally famous as of late, with televised events and celebrity poker game shows. The games popularity, though, stretches back in fact a bit further than its TV ratings. Over the years numerous variants on the first poker game have been created, including some games that are not really poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of the above-mentioned games. Regardless of the name, Caribbean stud poker is most closely related to chemin de fer than traditional poker, in that the gamblers bet against the casino instead of the other players. The winning hands, are the traditional poker hands. There is no bluffing or different types of deception. In Caribbean stud poker, you are required to pay up prior to the croupier declares "No more wagers." At that point, both you and the casino and of course every one of the other gamblers are given 5 cards each. Once you have observed your hand and the dealer’s initial card, you need to either make a call bet or give up. The call bet’s amount is equal to your original bet, meaning that the stakes will have increased two fold. Giving Up means that your wager goes directly to the casino. After the bet comes the face off. If the dealer does not have ace/king or better, your bet is returned, including a figure in accordance with the original wager. If the dealer does have ace/king or better, you succeed if your hand beats the bank’s hand. The dealer pays out cash even with your bet and controlled expectations on your call bet. These odds are:
- Even for a pair or high card
- 2-1 for 2 pairs
- 3-1 for 3 of a kind
- 4-1 for a straight
- five to one for a flush
- 7-1 for a full house
- twenty to one for a four of a kind
- fifty to one for a straight flush
- one hundred to one for a royal flush
