Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the final table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors around the world. While gambling on online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might be players you have never heard about. Gus can be found playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
