Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he liked participating in numerous card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very competitive in these particular card games as he was competing against his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little bit and moved to New York to play some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he played extensive hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he might better his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and focus more on poker.
The actual advancement in his abilities began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would often play against one another. Howard had access into a number of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his strategic thinking skills. He applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL texas hold’em.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master poker. Annie was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. He told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker arena has ever seen. He moved to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
