Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha/8 begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. Another round of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. Another round of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a few entrants often get baffled. Unlike Hold’em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical notion in just about all poker games.

The low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the whole pot.

Although it seems difficult initially, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting range of wagering options and because you have many players battling for the high hand, along with many shooting for the low. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
