Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players in the world. While playing online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
