Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so quickly.

Omaha 8 or better begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of betting ensues. After all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few players can get baffled. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must use exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical notion in just about every poker game.

The low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the complete pot.

It may seem difficult at first, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of play simply enough. Since you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting assortment of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several individuals battling for the high, and several battling for the low hand. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
