Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve last game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While participating in net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
