Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he enjoyed gambling on numerous card games at a young age. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a bit and headed to New York to compete in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he would play countless hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he possibly could improve his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.

The actual advancement in his skills happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would regularly challenge each other. Howard had access into some of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, he would sharpen his cunning thinking techniques. Howard used these strategy concepts in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

Howard also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard moved to Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the successive 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
